Report: Man Near Death After KORN Show - July 31, 2006
WSBTV.com has issued the following report:
A melee at a metro Atlanta concert ends with a man fighting for his life — and now his family wants answers.
A family of a man can't understand how a night of fun at a concert could end with him being brain dead.
It happened [on Sunday, July 30] at the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater during a concert by the group KORN. Police say 30-year-old Andy Richardson was beaten by two other concert-goers.
Homicide investigators are looking into this beating. At the same time, Andy Richardson is in very critical condition and his mother says it doesn't look good. She's trying to figure out how a night of fun could end with her son near death.
"Can you imagine your child goes to a concert and be killed for it, because of people out there fighting to have a quote unquote good time?" says Gloria Richardson.
Gloria is still trying to comprehend how her 30-year-old son, Andy, ended up brain-dead after he was attacked during a concert by the group KORN at the Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater. She also can't understand how the attackers got away.
"And I'm angry. I'm very angry. Why were the police not there to stop them," says Gloria.
"We were all enjoying the concert, we were having a good time, until these two guys came around," recalls Andy's friend, Edgar Arellano.
Arellano says it all started after the two men were mosh-pitting.
"A mosh pit is just jumping around and pushing each other," explains Arellano.

Michael Scott Axley has today appeared in court over the murder of KoRn fan Andy Richardson in July, AJC.com reports.
Bail bond for Axley (right) was set at $40,000, and Judge Richard Hicks ordered him to stay out of Fulton County except to visit his lawyer.
Hicks also imposed a dusk curfew and said Axley could not consume alcohol while free on bail.
The victim -- 30-year-old Andy Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia -- was attending The Family Values Tour 2006 at the HiFi Buys Ampitheater on Sunday, 30 July.
Atlanta police homicide Detective Brett Zimbrick testified at the hearing that Richardson was knocked to the ground by a punch from Axley, fatally hit his head on the concrete floor and was punched twice more as he lay unconscious.
