With the upcoming European Events, i.e. European MuayThai Championship 2008 and the European Festival: "Muay Thai Against Drugs", we would like to invite you to these events which are going to take place in Poland for the first time. The whole event will be held in Zgorzelec from 22nd to 28th of June, which coincides with the celebration of "Zgorzelec City Days".

Poland so far has held many tournaments, championships and professional Muaythai galas. Nevertheless, Poland will be the host country of the European MuayThai Championship for the first time. What is more, the special atmosphere will be guaranteed with the European Festival: "MuayThai Against Drugs" and "Zgorzelec City Days", which will surely attract lots of viewers.

By promoting the martial art of MuayThai (Thai boxing) in Poland and Europe, we would like to offer you an opportunity to participate in its development with all the best fighters, both professional and amateur from 42 European countries that are top-ranked in the championship tables and every time prove that their goal is to win. By taking part in such a special and prestigious event you can have a chance to meet all the recipients across Europe. The Opening Ceremony is supported by Mr Miroslaw Drzewiecki (the Minister of Sports and Tourism in Poland).

We are open to consider any kind of co-operation that will be beneficial for both sides. Thai Boxing is the most popular martial art not only in Poland but also all over the world. Therefore, we are convinced that promoting sports and campaigning against drugs will have a positive influence on the image for all of us. Moreover, we hope that the success of every team will become a success for every country.

It has never happened before!

Over 400 contestants from more then 30 countries will take part in European Muay Thai Championship that will be held in Zgorzelec between 22nd and 28th of June. Paul Slowinski will stand in the ring as well.

On Wednesday (7.05), promptly at 3 o'clock , a press conference promoting European Thai Boxing Championship and European Festival Muay Thai Against Drugs took place in the "Jan" Hotel in Jendrzychowice near Zgorzelec.

I have some good news for our supporters, the Minister of Sports and Tourism, Miroslaw Drzeweicki assured me that he will be present at Opening Ceremony - announced Rafał Szlachta, the president of PMF.

Each weight category is expected to be abundant in good fighters. To get to the final, contestants will have to fight in 3-5 bouts in the four 2-minute rounds system. - This will require excellent stamina and technique - explains Szlachta. Several Polish representatives will compete for medals in each category. The final line-up of our national team is still being discussed. The tournament ladders, however, will be established after the official weigh-in, i.e. 21st of June ? There is a possibility that some contestants will not meet the weight requirements. Consequently, everything will take one week. It will be a great holiday for Muay Thai because an event of such renown has never taken place in Poland ? says Szlachta.

Sebastian Bartkowiak, who is a resident of Zgorzelec, is counting on a medal on his own turf. He already has some junior titles on the record and has won Polish Championship in the >71kg category. His is trained and prepared by Petro Angeluk and Krzysztof Karpeta. ? They are very intensive preparations. I?m training three times a day and these are probably my hardest preparations ever. I?m hoping for a medal ? explains Bartkowiak.

A great attraction of the whole event will be a bout of Paul Slowinski for the title of professional world champion. It has not been decided yet, who will fight him but there are two challengers. WMC officials will decide soon, whether it will be a Dutch or a Swiss. The campaign against drugs will be organized parallel to the championship- It is the sport, that is supposed to be an alternative to boredom, and consequently, drugs - . We intend to convince the players of the local basketball team ?Turow Zgorelec? to help us since they are considered to be idols of the youth there. ? explains Szlachta.

Why is this all happening in Zgorzelec?- This is ?the European city?. It is easy to get there as well, all thanks to near airports in Wroclaw and Dresden. The Championship will take place in Zgorzelec in the sports and leisure centre on Maratonska Street.
